dekho dekho bandar ka tamasha .......

i just understood why in my childhood people liked watching the bandar ka tamasha .. when i'll turn old, i'll be bragging my grandchildren that the golden days were those when hawkers roamed the streets and damru ke saath bolta tha banda .... "dekho dekho bandar ka tamasha .... "

i now appreciate why people liked it. society likes drama, in any sense.. a small brawl results in lots of people lining up to satisfy their curiosities and having some drama in their 'lifeless' life.....

oh what am i writing about ?? this post is intended to brief about the bandar ka tamasha going on at PEC these days .. some freaking committee (NBA), called by request of PEC people only are meant to be giving PEC some marks and accreditation for 3 or 5 years ... thats great news for the college, since it has never got such accreditation.

but the bandar ka tamasha is that how the college changes in such a short span of time. with jamadars waking up in the wee hours (that should be read as 9 o clock) to clean the hell out of PEC, painters painting the newly made roads of the college, tent wala's putting up flags just about by 11 o clock, PEC seemed to hustle and bustle today, not because of students but because of people cleaning it all up..
anyways, things get even by 11 o clock. topped by the instruction of teachers for students to stay in class (though there is nothing to do in it),PEC looks chic, cool and peppy ...

Starting with seeing the college's facilities, hostels etc, everything is done to impress these bunch of no-good people to give some marks for our college .... anyways, everything .. AND I MEAN EVERYTHING (now dont think too much) must have been tried to impress the guys .. from making new chairs for Computer centre, making the lab's look really cool (as if someone works in them) i even think the dressing sense of girls was changed in our college, just for today (lol). the tamasha carries on and teachers are busy inserting goody goody things into NBA's ears till 5 o clock .. while the poor children (including me) are sitting, wasting their all important time sitting in the class, doing nothing....

now comes the time for the CLIMAX. at 5, people are being inserted into the auditorium to make it fill up to capacity. even some worker was seen spraying room freshener near the place they were supposed to sit to make the committee happy. come 6 o clock and the NAB comes into the auditorium. around 100 students were deliberately installed to sit and show their presence. while at the back of my mind, i was confident that random people should not have been called. Instead only the 'flagbearers' or the important guys of PEC should be intimated. However, they decided to pack the auditorium.

these NAB people turn out to be intelligent after all, trying to coax the public by telling that they will try telling the departments and administration about the shortcoming .and yes, they take care to not let any college teacher or faculty be nearby and also prevent any photograph/video been made .. a simple, easy trap.. which 100 people sitting in the audi fall into, simply. all they ask is to tell wrongthings of PEC. and sadly, we tell them ..

well, i started telling the shortcomings about PEC, in a diplomatic way, explaining that PEC has small size (in respect of land) and budget to get best facilities. things move on and the discussion becomes more candid. and more .... From lack of wifi speed, hostel problems, lack of infrastructure, to being scared of teachers everything .... imagine the end ... no ??

someone stands up and tells the guys (who would be rating the college) that why does so much changed only when you have come ?? why not everytime ?? (it ends with "please NAB should come every month". clapping and applause) haha .. everyone gets the point .. bandar ka tamasha hai .. aaj vo judge hai. jab unke college mai hoga, vo hi is tamashe ka integral hissa hoge ...

the first sessionals of the final sem

well, there is a tradition that the first sessionals always suck. well, this time was not different but in all ways, more stylish...
to be remembered as the 'baddesst' and the 'meannest' sems after 3rd sem, I wasnt in a mood to be studying for the exams, i just went over to every paper without much preparation..
the 1st one-wireless by nag carried just 2 questions (out of which i knew none!). the hour passed away quietly with people scribbling away random things onto their sheets (and i was no exception, for the obvious reasons). for people to get double digits would be impossible, so it should be just a matter of the topper having 8 while the people who dont know anything manage 2-3 marks .. does that matter, anyways ??

the next comes my most anticipated paper, the ultimate laughter inducing, rehani's (misspelled cause of google) question paper .. though it seemed simpler than his other design papers, i was satisfied as i knew the stuff this time ... but lack of time gets you, anyways.. dont expect any marks above 5/20

the suprise bag, microwave was the most 'rapeofying' of them all. the hype around the paper was that its a formula based paper, having simple questions. seriously speaking, my study for the exam was so poor because of me being busy making up document for NSS, searching about further study and other things amid my exams, i didnt feel like it .. topped with the declaration on the day before this paper that i was probable for imperial and duke's admit mail, i bet no one in my shoes would think of studying after getting admit's from big shots like those..

anyways, that really paid off .. my NOT studying, that is... the paper was a complete rape ..... out of 5 questions, i could'nt understand the english written in two of them .. another one question was a derivation (which our teacher had told would not be coming, so everyone left derivations and crammed up formulas instead).
the remaining questions were'nt piece of cake either....

1 required we bought alongwith us a smith chart(which is a convoluted puzzle having circles and stuff) and use it to find some answer. the best part was that i was seeing the chart first time in my life and kept on admiring it for about 30 minutes throughout the exam... i drew random lines onto it(after seeing nearby ppl making lines on it) and kept it in my sheet.. and one thing i missed is that no one knew how to use the chart, so no one got it for the exam. (my luck that bimal gave one to me just a minute before the exam). so comes our marks .. 3/15 (assuming i got the 1 question i attempted out of 5 right)

the final verdict:::
wireless 5 Comp. arch 5 and micro 3 ..... i hope people now understands why 1st sessionals suck and stop studying for it ......................................

academics in PEC-deemed university

"what is the goddamn benefit of this bloody grade point system? ", asked the lawyer i met today. he is fighting a case of my friend's termination from college. the question startled me a little. not because of the aggressive tone in which it came from an uninterested chap, but because i was caught up in the whirlpool of thoughts ....

the question of positives and negatives of a particular system were streaming from various neurons and the electro-chemical signals had staggered into a war. blankness numbed my brain and all i could mutter was there are positives as well as negatives. what you want to hear??

anyways, the case is simple. being a good friend, i have seen him closely since my 2nd year. he's not an ordinary person. i've seen him toiling for 22 hours at a stretch during exams studying and still getting a poor grade. its simple. he's a real hardworker. but some people cannot just grasp confusing concepts of physics or UME. whats his fault?? darsheel zafary of taare zameen par ?? not really, but, no harm in striking a resemblance.

anyways, now the college grading. a D grade fetches 4 credits then how is the academic rule at SGPA>4.5 or 5 justified? considering the law A+B=C+D, someone has to get a D, now in this case, there is an equal possibility that the not-so-popular and the not-so-sycophant people lose their grades in this subjective grade getting battle. its a common thing that better grades have been given to bootlickers and other stuff, but the average man is again at a loss.

the laws clearly suggest that even if the person passes all the subjects with D's he may get terminated from the college. this happens with my friend... is this justified on moral grounds ?

the other technicality that 6 years be given to the person to finish his degree is also not complied in his case. talk about the arbitrary nature of senate's decision to terminate him, i am amazed what teachers and educators may achieve my debarring a person from college. see his effort. see the amount of work he may put to get things done. see the hard work. no.. they'd prefer being rigid and trying to set an example (and everyone should understand this that no matter how much people try to set examples, things dont change by making disciplined actions for isolated cases)

i could just tell the judge that 'bloody' he passed in all the subjects with 21 credits, how can they terminate when clearly its written termination is only if the credits are 15 or less..... now why doesnt senate comply to it's rules ????

PS::: if any PECOBIAN reads this and supports his cause, please convince your friends so that the students can do something to change .. students have the power to do anything .. if and only if they want to ...

convoluted game of acceptances, rejections and withdrawals...

A time comes in every one's life when he is disappointed for what he has worked so hard for, just like the negative of the 'conventional' camera. later does the negative get developed and then comes recognition, choice and publicity..
but this time, along with the above mentioned, comes madness.

i have tried arranging it chronologically, but believe me, everyday has been a suprise the past 2 months ....

2008
well, its a new game altogether, a game of research. research demands acknowledgment of your work through paper publications in journals and technical conferences. now, during my stay at STM, i had made a research paper, which, frankly, did not seem to me as a great work. my mentor had submitted the paper earlier, but had rejections from many places. my motive was to give a new 'look' to the paper and make it look acceptable.

i remember my initial discussions with my mentor. the work seemed incomplete and uncertain. i was then actually involved in finishing the work, testing and profiling the new algorithm suggested in the paper. a few modifications, in the understanding, also followed. anyways, the point was i was analysing and researching each and every aspect. now, the paper has had it's share of bad luck with lots of rejections from indian conferences (and international one's too).

this paper was finally complete and ready to be accepted. I, personally, wasnt sure of its fate because of a few problems (which i tried my best to cover up and conceal). anyways, it was indian conference level. that was my take.

now, this paper was sent in alwar's international conference. accepted. great boost for us. next I sent it in PEC, but due to internal knowledge of poor quality, another one was sent, while this was withdrawn. next comes selection of a modified version of this paper in amu's national conference and some bombay's international conference. okay .. cool nah !

JAN
then comes the big ones. the paper travels world and gets accepted in international conference in hongkong (conf. names withdrawn, due to google). 5 days later, when i was making mind of visiting HK, comes another suprise that it got selected for thailand conference, the same which had rejected it earlier.. persistence, luck or god? whatever. ... things are good.

FEB
after withdrawals from earlier ones, comes IETE journal suprise that 1 person had liked it and it may be published there. also, a better conference, CNSR, accepts it.
baaki har jaga se withdraw karke, now CNSR is final .. the work gets uploaded on iee digital library. what else is needed??

in the midst of it, i was going berserk... mad. how to make yourself completely mad?? comes, ieee ka journal's partial acceptance..... god knows what will happen the next 2 days...

June:::
the end of this game has been that we cancelled cnsr and did not get through in consumer electronics journal ... be greedy and get nothing ! ..

my best friend is ... billu

well, here comes a movie which concentrates on the essay we all learnt by rote and had written it in our adolescence. my best friend is ... blah blah blah blah ....
am talking about billu barber (pronounce as 'beep', why, because the whole movie is filled with beeps whenever barber or hajaam word comes in the movie.) The song mutes hajaam, and it seems like someone is saying haraam.

Anyways, the point is, its a good concept to focus on eternal friendship but the movie is a big time bore, because of incessant songs(which keep on coming for no reason). moreover, the movie is NOT a comedy.. but just a timepass flick. the whole movie has publicity of shahrukh's own self-image. its obvious that shahrukh's motive of doing this film is to endorse his brand and also show how politically correct and humble he is. but anyways, the movie could have been definately better without senseless numbers like 'mar jaani', a try of imitating rock on 'style' music and the stupid 'billu bhayankar' song.

the movie is okay if you are a mushy mushy person or you just remembered you also had a best friend in your life. another thing, it's not a priyadarshan styled flick. the comedian's like rajpal, asrani and om puri have no humour to display in the movie, while irfan is shown a subdued yet strong, average, pity endorsing fellow. a typical middle class fellow with small problems and big dreams to achieve .... while shahrukh's acting sucks big time (i cant understand why his lips tremble between dialogues.. kkkkk kiran is it ??? )

PS:: i realised its too much movie reviews on this blog, but i guess thats a good way of updating it while not boring people about my daily life stories or happenings ...

bedtime story

it's a good day and i have finally decided to go on for a walk cum jog. the weather is cool too, with no sun but grey tones in the sky. after a good day's work, am jogging with quite a few people, some of which i just overtook. the day is good and i am loving the puffs of smoke coming from my mouth in this weather.

its decision time on whether to go straight or right. straight, there's a building and right has an empty road, a little foggy.. but uninhabited. first i think of going straight, going on the other side of the road and i see a yellow gate. in between the bars, i see other people walking normally. i decide to go right only, not towards the gate. in the midst of this, the people i was with have been left behind, some going straight while some have already turned right and on the other side of the road, though am not alone, i see some joggers ahead of me.

all of a sudden, people ahead of me start running faster.. and i catch up too. someone comes from the other side, hinting me to stop, analyse and stay put. i dont. in the grossly bizzare situation, i run faster, risking myself... people ahead of me are shot. killed. for a moment, i decide to run faster and go away from the building .. and even make one or two shots of sprinting in despair.

then my senses dawn on me that the best thing to do is lie down as there is some kind of terrorists and am an easy target with my back all exposed and me running....
just as this happens, i stoop lower and from nowhere someone makes an impact on my head, with his legs, shoots at someone and covers me while i lay dorsal on the road...... he says, dont move, am from nsg, my eyes, on the ground open up and see someone just tryin to shoot me but getting shot by the guy.. he's on me, protected me and now i close my eyes.. feeling anxious, but thinking why i committed that mistake.... my mind running ..

i realise that if i feel safe, i may not be here .. but somewhere else.. i open up the eyes and my mobile reads 5:15. .... am lying on my bed .. and its my dream ..

PS:: though am not perturbed ever by the terrorism n stuff (never in my mind .. comes such things.. seems funny now thinkin bou it ), i dont know why this came to me ... but the problem is if it came to me, what bout the sensitive and people who have ever witnessed things like these ....... what's in their mind ?
